Summer is one of the most popular times of year for travel – whether it is a weekend vacation or a week-long trip to the beach. You will most likely be driving to your next big vacation, but before you hit the road, make sure that all the bells and whistles on your car are ready to go!
The last thing you want when you’re headed out for your summer vacation is a flat tire, or to be making a trip to an auto body shop and collision center in a state you aren’t even familiar with. It is always easier to be proactive rather than reactive, especially when it comes to your car.
1. Check your oil levels. You’re going to need the proper amount of oil to keep the car running efficiently. An oil change doesn’t cost much and won’t take too long, and your car deserves a full tank of fresh oil before she carries you all that way.
2. Check your tire pressure. A flat tire can not only be a pain, but it can be dangerous. A flat tire could leave you having to change a tire on the side of the freeway, or sitting on the side of the freeway waiting for a tow truck. Just do a quick check of the pressure and tread of your tires to ensure that you don’t start out with a flat.
3. Check your battery. A battery is a time-consuming fix if you decide to jump start your car as opposed to going and buying another battery. It will only take you a few minutes to check and make sure the terminals around your battery are corrosion-free and the positive and negative leads are tight.
4. Check your “check engine” lights. Your car has notifications for a reason – to let you know if something might be wrong. This is the easiest way to figure out if something might be going on under the hood – simply turn the car on and make sure that warning lights are flashing.
If your car is more than a few years old, or you have had problems with it in the past, it is always a good idea to check everything out before you hit the road. If you aren’t quite a car expert, head on over to our auto body shop and collision center and let us check it out for you! Your road trip will be a lot less stressful if you have peace of mind about the condition of your vehicle.
