According to the article, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that in one year in the U.S. a total of 292,000 teens who were 16 to 19 years old had to be treated in emergency rooms because of injuries sustained from a car accident.

There were also 2,650 teens that were killed in that year because of car accidents. And, according to the article, teen drivers are responsible for a disproportionate numbers of car crashes.

Speeding

The article states that the National Safety Council (NSC) found out that  that speeding was a cause of 30 percent of the total number of car accidents that happened in one year in the U.S. Furthermore, 10,000 car crash fatalities happen every year because of speeding.

Automotive Defects

While majority of all car accidents are caused by human factors, 4.5 percent of all car accidents is caused by vehicle factors. Vehicle defects can even worsen the injuries sustained by car occupants in a car accident.

Tailgating

Drivers following too closely decrease their reaction times and endanger the lives of other motorists on the road. The article states that according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) both tailgating and unsafe passing account for 26.5 percent of all rear-end collisions.
