Miracle Body and Paint in San Antonio Texas wants you to be always prepared for any road emergency. In today’s blog post we’ll be instructing you how to change a flat tire – one important skill all drivers must be familiar with.
Did you know that it is possible to change a flat tire without a spare one? Especially for those with more modern vehicles that no longer hold a full-sized spare in the trunk, knowing how to use the repair kit can help you during tough times. Here’s what you should do when you find yourself having to deal with a flat tire without a spare:
- Get out of the road – make sure to pull over to a safe place. This could be a wide right shoulder or exit ramp. It will be better if you find a place where the surface is even so you can use the jack safely.
- Locate your car repair kit – First thing you should do is to plug the air compressor kit into your car’s accessory outlet. Remove the valve stem cap from the flat tire and attach the air compressor to your flat tire’s valve stem. After that, you can now turn the air compressor on. Make sure to wait for the compressor gauge to normalize and fill the tire up until it reaches the car manufacturer’s specifications. Always follow the kit’s instructions and ensure that your tire will seal using the repair kit. Return the valve stem cap back onto the tire.
- Find a service station or auto repair shop- You still need to get the flat tire professionally repaired and replaced. When you have properly followed the steps above, you can now drive off to find the nearest service station.
If you have a spare tire in your trunk, you can follow these instructions:
- To access the lug nut, remove the center cap or hubcap from the flat tire wheel.
- Loosen the lug nuts of the flat wheel but don’t remove them completely.
- Use the jack to raise your car off the ground, making sure that the jack is flat on the ground and securely positioned.
- At this stage, completely remove the lug nuts from the flat tire.
- While firmly grabbing the flat tire, and pull it (with the wheel) off of the vehicle.
- Position the spare tire onto the car.
- Finger-tighten the lug nuts back on the wheel studs first to avoid cross-threading.
- Lower your car to the ground by loosening the jack.
- Tighten the lug nuts using the supplied tool according to the car’s manufacturer instruction.
